Primalec launches new range of safe, reliable leak sealants for refrigeration and air conditioning plant.

Just announced by Primalec, the UK’s leading manufacturer of uv-fluorescent leak detection products, is a new range of Super Seal refrigeration system sealants that find and seal micro leaks wherever they occur in refrigeration or air-conditioning systems.

The new fluorinated greenhouse gas regulations approved by the European Parliament in October 2005 require those operating refrigeration or air-conditioning equipment to test the systems for leakage and to carry out repairs where leaks are found. Super Seal products will be a valuable addition to the range of tools available to the refrigeration trade to help customers meet those requirements.

Designed for use after conventional leak detection methods have proved unsuccessful, Super Seal is compatible with all refrigerants and oils and flows freely through the system without affecting valve cores, driers, compressors or other components. It is injected into a system that is clean and free of moisture.

Three Super Seal products are available, each for a defined scale of system:

  • Super Seal 3-Phase is a commercial and industrial strength formula for 5-ton systems and larger.
  • Super Seal HVACR is for air conditioning systems and cold stores in the 2.5 to 5 tons range.
  • Super Seal ACR is for small air conditioning and refrigeration systems ranging from 230 BTU/hr up to 18,000 BTU/hr, or a maximum 1.5 tons.

Super Seal products are designed to seal undetectable or inaccessible micro leaks in condensers, evaporators and piping, working from the inside out. Injection is a simple one-step process whereby the system refrigerant is drawn into the Super Seal vacuum-packed can so that the sealant is mixed with the refrigerant and dispensed throughout the system. As soon as the mixture of refrigerant and Super Seal leaks from a hole of 300 microns or smaller, the encounter with air causes a chemical reaction, and the sealant crystallizes to seal the hole. The seal is permanent and unaffected by refrigerants and oils. Each Super Seal product is supplied with a disposable charging hose and complete easy-to-follow instructions and is easily reclaimed and separated in the refrigerant recycling and cleaning process. Super Seal cannot harm air conditioning or refrigeration servicing equipment.

Super Seal products have been used extensively and successfully in North America to eliminate hard-to-find leaks in equipment of all sizes. Leaks in a 48-ton chiller system at Ford Motor Company’s engine plant in Windsor, Ontario, that had defied normal leak detection techniques, were sealed in hours using Super Seal 3 Phase some four years ago. The leaks have never reappeared. The same success was achieved with a walk-in cooler in a florist’s shop in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Experience has shown that, even where a system has multiple leaks and a need for parts and repair, Super Seal can keep a system up and running until the parts arrive, thus preventing lost production or lost refrigerated stock, and often provides a permanent seal of micro leaks.

Alongside the Super Seal range, Primalec markets the range of Glo-Leak test fluids and injectors plus an extensive range of air-conditioning service products, uv lamps and more – see them all at www.primalec.co.uk. Or telephone 01474 854417.
